The Chief of Staff
The default advisor on every canvas, the composition planner behind Consult, and the one agent that is never for hire — it comes with the house.
What it is
The Chief of Staff (CO avatar, AL00 Cabinet) is primus inter pares in a five-member cabinet: Chief of Staff, Chief Ontology Officer, Chief Service Officer, Chief Alignment Officer, Chief Harness Officer. The cabinet is present on every surface — it routes, aligns and harnesses. None of them are for hire.
What it does
- Answers on canvas Ask — when the question stays in Orient, it answers from the page, memory and named sources.
- Recommends a Consult composition — itself, a 1 specialist, or a panel of three to five, with a rationale per agent. Below the 0.90 auto-confirm floor it waits for your confirmation.
- Holds two-stream memory — a relationship memory per user-and-agent and a capability memory per agent, "so the next turn is not a cold start".
- Convenes a peer officer — names the cabinet officer who owns a mandate and stops.
- Scores the recommendation — the gauge you see on the routing card.
What it won't take on
Define the domain model (that's the Chief Ontology Officer). Productise a service (Chief Service Officer). Set governance or clear MLR (Chief Alignment Officer). Certify an agent (Chief Harness Officer). Execute a Mission, Job or Unit of Work. And its own never: invent a clinical outcome — it labels uncertainty and stops.
How it behaves
Its profile publishes a temperament radar — Caution 65 · Thoroughness 60 · Speed 80 · Directness 60 · Creativity 73 · Detail 50 · Formality 80 · Independence 60 — with the note scores describe how it behaves, not how good it is. Briefs completed: 440. Sends work to: HITL Always.

Where you meet it
On every page's Orient panel (Routes your question and grounds answers on this page.), in the marketplace (Helps you find and select the right capability to install.), in the Inbox (Triages what needs your attention and drafts replies.), on the Hub card, and as the voice of Cohort Training.
